Greer Howland Smith was born in the United States and grew up in both America and Europe. Greer earned her MFA as well as a degree in History of Art from the University of Edinburgh in 2005. In addition to her studio space in Hong Kong, she maintains active art projects in New York City and Boston. Genetics and biotechnology is a continuous theme in much of her art and she is currently working on a biotech art project with scientists from Harvard University and MIT.
Greer's latest Hong Kong collection is a series of resin collages. Each collage, largely inspired by various social aspects of Hong Kong life and the history of Hong Kong, is encased in resin, creating a multi-layered "time capsule".
